Linda Snell writes:
My cousin Jack had eye surgery in December 2008 and returned home from the hospital. He didn't feel well the next day, but didn't want to return to the hospital because of lack of health insurance. So he died at home in his wife's arms. His friends and family all know he would still be alive if he had health insurance and could have returned to the hospital for a check-up, without paying out of pocket. I believe he didn't want to leave his wife and son with debt, so it was "cheaper" to die. Oh my God, people, how did we come to this, that it is such a concern to leave our loved ones with debt if we are sick and have no way to pay for it. What kind of country do we live in that this can happen to such a good man?
